How we work with families

Our Director of Parent Coaching & Advocacy and Parent Coaches bring together relevant lived experience and professional knowledge of children's needs, development, learning, and educational systems. Through individualized conversations and, when appropriate, document review, we help families explore concerns and possibilities.

Listening and understanding

Creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space to discuss your family's experiences, concerns, and priorities.

Exploring your child's needs

Talking through questions related to learning, development, behavior, emotional regulation, and daily functioning.

Considering the bigger picture

Exploring concerns related to school, home, relationships, and other areas of family life, including questions that extend beyond education.

Clarifying concerns and questions

Helping you identify meaningful questions, organize information, and determine what you may want to learn more about.

Exploring possibilities

Discussing potential approaches, information to consider, and professionals or additional resources that may be relevant to your family.

Reviewing educational documents

Reviewing IEPs, school communications, disciplinary records, and other relevant documents you choose to share.

Preparing for educational conversations

Helping you identify priorities, develop questions, and prepare for IEP meetings, school conversations, or other educational discussions.

Every conversation is individualized to your family's concerns and priorities. We listen before offering perspective, respect your knowledge of your child, and recognize that families make decisions within their own unique circumstances.

What makes Co-Regulate different

Understanding a child requires looking beyond labels, expectations, and standard recommendations. Every child communicates needs differently, and approaches that work for one child may not work for another.

Our approach is collaborative rather than prescriptive. We don't assume we know what is best for your child or that there is one right answer for every family. We help you organize information, explore questions, consider different perspectives, and identify possibilities that may be worth pursuing.

Access to guidance should not depend on a family's ability to pay. Our services are free, with no obligation to purchase services or pursue a particular recommendation.

Our service boundaries

Co-Regulate provides educational information, document review, parent coaching, and preparation support. We help parents think through concerns and prepare for conversations, but we do not attend IEP or school meetings with families, communicate with schools on a family's behalf, or represent families in formal disputes. Our services do not include routine follow-up or ongoing case management.

We do not provide legal representation, medical care, mental health treatment, or independent diagnostic or evaluation services. When a family's circumstances call for expertise beyond our scope, we may suggest consulting an appropriately qualified professional.

Parents and authorized caregivers remain responsible for decisions concerning their child. Our role is to help you explore your options, not to tell you what you must do.

Privacy and child safety

We respect the privacy of the families we work with and handle personal information carefully. Access to family information is limited to authorized individuals who need it to provide the service.

Before you share sensitive information or documents, we explain our document-handling practices and the relevant limits to confidentiality, including how information is stored, accessed, and deleted.

Our Director of Parent Coaching & Advocacy is a mandated reporter under applicable Illinois law and must fulfill required reporting obligations when circumstances meet the relevant legal threshold for suspected child abuse or neglect. We explain these responsibilities and limits to confidentiality as part of the service agreement.
